The Advantages of an Independent Insurance Agency

The Advantages of an Independent Insurance Agency

There are multiple options when it comes to buying insurance, and with all the different choices it may get a bit confusing.  However, when you use an independent insurance agency we are here to clear the confusion and help you with your needs.

As an independent insurance agency, we represent multiple carriers and are able to explore all of your insurance options in order to find you the best policy at the best price. When using a traditional insurance company, you are limited to what they themselves offer.

Over time, your individual and business insurance needs may change and as an independent insurance agency we can make that transition much easier on you.

When it comes to you, your family, and your business we want to make sure you have the coverage you need – it’s our job to help you!

At C.H. Edwards, Inc. your needs are our first priority, contact us today for all of your New York insurance needs.

Take Control of Your Auto Insurance Premium

Despite popular belief, you can take control of how much you pay for auto insurance. There are a variety of aspects affecting the price you pay each month, many of which are lifestyle factors. Take control of your auto insurance premium by making these simple adjustments:

  • The coverage you choose and your deductible affect how much you pay each month. It is important to know that when you choose a higher deductible, you pay less each month. Likewise, when you choose to pay a lower deductible, you will see the difference in your monthly bill. Speak with your insurance agent and make sure you are only paying for coverage that is absolutely necessary and beneficial based on your unique needs.
  • The car you drive has a great impact on your auto insurance premium. Before purchasing a new car, be sure to contact your insurance agent to make sure you don’t take on any additional insurance expenses on top of the monthly car payment you just opted for.
  • Reducing your commute can help you receive discounts. The more you are on the road the greater your chances of being involved in an accident are. Therefore, walking or biking whenever possible decreases your vulnerability. If you move to a location closer to your work, be sure to inform your insurance agent so they can take into account the decrease in mileage.
  • Driving safely and slowly can also help you receive discounts. Each traffic violation you receive and each accident you are involved in will increase your auto insurance premium.

At C.H. Edwards Insurance, Inc., you’re a person, not a policy number. We understand the importance of personalizing a unique insurance package based on the exclusive needs of each customer. Contact us today for all of your New York auto insurance needs.

Outdoor Safety

Outdoor Safety

campingCamping season is here and it’s time for fun for the whole family. Before you head out into the great outdoors, it is essential to know how to identify outdoor hazards as well as how to treat wounds from those hazards.

Poison Ivy:

How to Identify – Poison ivy plants have three pointed leaves that change colors with the seasons, reddish in the spring, green in the summer, and yellow, orange, or red in the fall. On most plants, the leaves have rough edges; on others, the leaves have smooth edges. poison-ivy

How to treat Poison Ivy rash – If you have an allergic reaction to poison ivy, use a cold compress or calamine lotion to relieve the itching. If the rash is near your eyes or covers a large part of your body, call a doctor immediately.

Insect Bites:

How to Identify – There are many different types of insects that bite or sting. Some bites and stings are painful and some can also spread illness. Bites from mosquitoes are itchy and uncomfortable, but are usually harmless. Identifying a bug bite by how it looks and feels will help you know whether to seek medical attention or treat the skin bump at home.

mosquitosHow to Treat an Insect bite – Try these methods for itch relief:
• Wash the area of the bite with soap and water.
• A cold compress or ice will help reduce itching and swelling.
• Calamine lotion or an over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream will help soothe itching.

How to Prevent an Insect bite – Apply bug spray or use wearable bug repellent bracelets with DEET. DEET is the active ingredient that normally provides protection that lasts longer than others.

Mosquitoes with the West Nile Virus:
Mosquito bites can be a nuisance. But mosquitoes also can carry illnesses. In the United States, mosquitoes can spread West Nile virus. For about 80% of people who are infected, this virus causes no symptoms. But in some people, the virus can cause severe illness and even death. bug spray

Mc Donald’s Makes Plans To Serve Breakfast All Day

Mc Donald’s Makes Plans To Serve Breakfast All Day

McDonalds Rise and shine because it`s about to be morning all day long. McDonald`s has been testing their breakfast menu being served all day for several months now and it looks like it`s here to stay. According to Time.com the nationwide rollout could begin as early as October of this year.

The exciting news was announced after one franchise based in Tuscon released a menu to all the McDonald`s employees to prepare them for the switch. These test menus began in San Diego, Mississippi and Nashville, TN. And now it`s expanding nation wide. This menu change is one of McDonald`s chances to raise their mc donalds breakfastdecreasing sales. Their sales have been slowing down over the past few years and serving McMuffins all hours of the day may be their last hope to defeat their low sales. Only time will tell, but with the amount of excitement this news has generated, we have to think McDonald`s might be onto something.

Be Thirsty

Be Thirsty

I believe in the ability to improve and overcome. In my opinion, any situation can be winnable depending upon my desire to succeed.

Even if an altercation becomes physical, even if I am smaller, or seemingly weaker; as long as my will and intent outweighs the fear in my heart and the physical ability of my opponent, I can beat anyone.

Understand something; our level of willingness is what determines our level of accomplishment.

Depending upon my hunger, or on my thirst for the better, and depending upon my determination, I can improve and succeed in any situation

As long as I refuse to quit and as long as I am prepared to continue, no matter how much time needs to be put in, my desire to win is what strengthens my ability to endure—because without endurance, there will never be any victory.

The way I see it . . .

There is no such thing as a cheap win.

In fact, no true win is ever easy.

Easy is valueless

Easy is quick and fleeting

Easy is like a teenage boy running home after his first three minutes of sex and never understanding the compliment of laying still beside the accomplishment of a first love.

Back when I was a kid, I remember a few girls that went to a photographer. They paid to have a portfolio made up.

They paid for head shots or any shots that would (at least, in their
eyes) qualify them as a model.

Next day, they walked around, bragging to their friends, and telling everyone about their huge modeling career.

They told everyone, “I’m a model now.”

But they really weren’t . . .

I remember sitting across from a man in a bookstore. He was standing in front of me, speaking about himself, and telling me about his writing.

This man proceeded to tell me why I will never be successful as a writer.

I listened to this man break my spirit and put ne down for nearly twenty minutes, though I’m not sure why.

I suppose I listened out of educational intimidation or maybe I listened because of my overwhelming bouts with insecurity.

I listened, halfway to impressed, and then I asked the man, “How many books have you had published.”

“Oh, I’ve never been published,” he told me.

Next, the man proceeded to tell me about a book deal he had. Told me how he had a publisher at his heels. Said, “The book shouldn’t cost me that much to publish.”

“A little less than two grand,” he told me.

I asked him, “So you’re going to pay to be published?”

“Yeah,” he answered. “Didn’t you do it like that?”

That’s when I told him, “No.”

That’s when I explained, “Paying to be published is not the same thing as being a published author.”

“Paying to be published is just like going to a printer . . . Anybody will print anything if you pay them to do it.”

Then I pointed to a sign that said, “Meet The Author,” and asked him to walk away from the table at my book signing.

See, I made a decision a while back. Whatever kind of writer I will be; it will be because I taught myself and pushed myself. That’s why I write everyday. Whatever success I find will be because I never quit and I never listened to people like the man from the bookstore or to the girls who paid to have their photos taken.

There will always be someone looking to brag or pose like they’re successful.

But bragging is not the same thing as winning.

At least, not to me it isn’t.

Be thirsty folks, and whatever you do

be sure to enjoy your day!

It’s Official, Miley Cyrus Is Hosting The 2015 MTV Video Music Awards!

It’s Official, Miley Cyrus Is Hosting The 2015 MTV Video Music Awards!

Miley EditThe rumors are true and it’s official Miley Cyrus is hosting the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, set to air live August 30 at 9 p.m.

In typical Miley fashion, she announced her big news by dressing up as an alien and wearing a sandwich board that reads “MTV WON’T LET ME PERFORM” on one side and “SO I’M HOSTING THIS YEAR’S VMA’S” on the other.

At just just 15, Miley attended he first VMAs in 2008. She was nominated for Best New Artist and was up against Katy Perry and Taylor Swift. She’s had quite the history with this award show since then. Last year, she made headlines when she graciously offered up her acceptance speech time to her homeless date, Jesse Helt, who explained the plight of homeless youth in L.A. That moment sparked the creation of Miley’s Happy Hippie organization, which gives support services to those in need.

And, as you might remember, Miley’s 2013 VMAs were marked by the twerk seen ’round the world, when she danced with Robin Thicke and a giant foam finger. Never forget.

We can only imagine the amazing antics she’ll pull this year.

6 Tips To Maintaining a Healthy, Beautiful Looking Lawn This Summer Season

6 Tips To Maintaining a Healthy, Beautiful Looking Lawn This Summer Season

grass

The warm sunny weather is here and it’s time of the year for healthy, green growing grass. A yard doesn’t just have healthy green grass all by itself year after year. In most cases, it takes constant gardening maintenance to care for grass and maintain its gorgeous green coloring.

During this time of year, your grass needs special care. Follow these 6 tips when maintaining your lawn this summer season:

1. Cut your grass at the proper height to maintain its health. If your grass is cut too short, it will burn in the sun or die. Grass that is kept too high will start to thin out due to too much shade. Tall grass also stays damp, which can lead to mold and mildew. Trim your grass about once a week during the growing season to keep it the correct height.

2. Dethatch your yard every two or three years to remove dead grass buildup. When grass dies and new blades take its place, dead vegetation builds up on top of the soil. This can block light and air from advancing new growth.

3. Towards the end of the summer season, aerate your yard to loosen the soil and incorporate more air flow near the surface.

4. After you aerate your grass, overseed your grass. Since you already have a lawn, simply cast the seeds by hand over the grass, throwing out more seed over thin areas.

5. Water your grass on a regular basis, and after casting seed, to maintain healthy growth.

Watering lawn6. Set up a sprinkler for your yard, and water the grass once a day for 15 minutes. Be sure to avoid overwatering your grass. Continue this until you see blades of new grass growing.

Maintain that healthy, beautiful look you love all summer long by following these simple maintenance tips. Make your lawn, your home’s first impression.

Drink Tea For Better Heart Health

Drink Tea For Better Heart Health

Woman drinking green tea

A recent study found that drinking tea will lower your risk of heart disease. The USDA reported that men and women who drank black tea for three weeks reduced their total and bad cholesterol (LDL) levels by an average of 7.5 percent. Researchers concluded that drinking tea may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. Antioxidants called flavonoids found in both black and green tea, are thought to be strong weapons in the fight against heart disease.

This news is especially important for women, given heart disease kills more women than all forms of cancer combined including breast cancer.

Think about enjoying a cup of tea each day and not only will you be taking a well deserved break, but you will also be taking an important step in improving your heart health.
